During the keynote of the Ubuntu Online Summit for the upcoming Ubuntu 15.10 today, Mark Shuttleworth shared a few details about a new upcoming Ubuntu smartphone.
This Ubuntu smartphone should have “Converged Unity Experience”. This means it will be some kind kind of Smartphone with desktop computer functionality; it could hook up to a monitor, mouse and keyboard.
Apps will run on the desktop in an appropriate guise like responsive websites do on smartphones. Ubuntu core apps are still in the process of being rewritten to provide a proper converged (Unity) experience.
Ubuntu expects to ship an Ubuntu smartphone this year that will feature this awesome converged desktop experience. No exact release date is known yet.
