Dell Laptop with Ubuntu

Blogger Gustavo noticed its very hard to get hold of a laptop from Dell with Linux pre-installed. After a long search he did find Laptops from Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed, but they were very hard to find!

Dell Laptop with Ubuntu

On its Spanish, British, French & German sites, Dell lists the Ubuntu pre-installed computers it offers. But not all of them. It shows only Ubuntu netbooks & hides the others, according to Gustavo.
For example, the hidden trick to get a Dell XPS laptop with Ubuntu preinstalled is to get in touch with sales representatives & they'll give you a link to purchase it, as he noticed.

It seems Dell is afraid of Microsoft to sell their Laptops pre-installed with Ubuntu, instead of Windows (with a cheap OEM/bulk-license)

Maybe this is something Nelie Smit Kroes (European Commissioner for Competition) should investigate. It seems like PC vendors are afraid to loose their contracts with Microsoft if they sell their hardware with competing Operating Systems. She already fined Microsoft in the past for failure to comply with the March 2004 antitrust decision.
